Course Objectives:


Course Objectives:  The student will be able to:

1.    Describe the effects of substance abuse and psycho-social factors on performance and behavior  (PE 1:8).

2.    Explain consumer health issues related to the marketing, selection, and use of products and services that may affect health and physical activity involvement  (PE 1:10).

3.    Select and access community resources to enhance physical activity opportunities and involvement  (PE 3:1).

4.    Describe the principles of nutrition and their application in maintaining good health and preventing health-related problems:  weight control, caloric versus expenditure and eating disorders  (H1:4).

5.    Compare and contrast the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs, generic drugs, illegal substances and non-drug drugs  (H1:5).

6.    Detect the prevention and management of communicable and chronic diseases and related health care  (H1:6).

7.    Use consumer health issues related to the marketing, selection and use of health products and services  (H1:7).

8.    Describe the dynamics of interpersonal relationships as related to family life, human sexuality and growth and development  (H1:9).

9.    Communicate intentional and unintentional injury prevention techniques  (H1:10).

10.    Demonstrate a working knowledge of biological, psychological, sociological, experiential and environmental factors of development (H2:1).

11.    Process the behavior changes that favorably affect personal health  (H3:1).

12.    denote strategies used to identify and reduce health risks in the community and the environment  (H3:5)
Demonstrate a personal and social skill development relevant to health-related issues  (H3:7).




Instructions and Assignments:

A.    Read all assigned readings.

B.    Complete the assignments using the textbook information.

C.    All lessons and personal assessments must be typed using Microsoft Word and submitted using the Assignment feature.

D.    Submit all lessons and assessments the Assignment feature found in Your Lessons and Your Assessments folders which is under Course Documents. Do not submit lessons or assessments as an e-mail attachment.

E. Save your lessons and assessments as a document using HPE1043Lesson#(Your Name) or HPE1043PA#(Your Name). Where Lesson # or PA#  is the lesson or assessment  your are submitting along with your full name.

F. E-mail me and let me know when you have submitted an assignment. If you don't do this, I will not know to go look for your items. You may e-mail me using the address found in (1) Faculty  Information or (2) Communication (send e-mail). Either way...inform me.

G. I will return your lessons graded.  You will find your lesson grades posted in your My Grades. Go to the Tools button and look under My Grades.

Your final lesson or assessment grade will be incomplete until all lesson or assessment components have been submitted

Examinations:

Two online objective (multiple choice) examinations are required in this course. The first exam will be taken after Lessons 2 and the second exam will be taken after Lessons 4.
It is strongly advised to wait to see graded lessons before engaging an exam.  Upon completing an exam, you will find your exam grade posted in your My Grades. Go to the Tools button and look under My Grades.

Secure your exams by following the guidelines within your course.

Exam Values

 Exam #1 = 116 points

 Exam #2 = 70 points

Exam One: Chapters 1-6 (Lessons 1-2)

Exam Two: Chapters 7-9 (Lessons 3-4)



Grading:


The final grade will be based on four completed lessons, personal assessments, and two exams.

Lessons: 1-4 = 200 points (50 points each)

Personal Assessment: 30 points (10 each)

Exams:  186 points (116 points exam 1; 70 points exam 2)

Total Points: 416

100-90%  = A
89 - 80% = B
79 - 70% = C
69 - 60% = D
59% below = F
