Course Description:
Child Development is a study of the operation of moral,
psychological and developmental processes in the lives of children
from birth to adolescence. Prerequisite: PSY 1013 (General Psychology)
or EDU 2113.
Course Objectives:
It is anticipated that the student, through the duration
of this course, will:
A. Recognize
the normal range of physical developmental stages.
B. Recognize the normal range of intellectual developmental
stages.
C. Recognize the normal range of social and emotional stages.
D. Recognize the problems, both physical and emotional, that
plague the young.
E. Be able to apply the above knowledge in a practical manner
in work and play with children.
Course Requirements:
Reading of the textbook: provides necessary background.
Reading the textbook will also help you prepare for completion of
the study guide and exams.
A suggested study sequence is to: (1) read the chapter in the text, (2) complete the Chapter Review and simply
review the Key Terms portion of the study guide, (3) complete and submit your Unit Applications
questions, (4) take chapter progress
test(s) in study guide (do not hand in), and (5)
complete Unit Exam.
Note: This course will cover only chapters 1-13 in the
text and study guide.
Chapter Reviews - Study Guide - (130 points) : You
are to complete the Chapter Reviews ( 10 per chapter) section from each
chapter (1-13) in your publisher study guide. You will complete and submit
Chapter Reviews BEFORE you engage Unit exam #4. The Reviews should be postal
mailed to my office. Please provide a cover for the Reviews which provides
your full name and return postal mailing address, if you want them returned
to you.

You should complete each Chapter Review AS YOU STUDY the chapter . Don't
wait until late in the course to complile your Chapter Reviews.
Chapter Reviews and Key Terms are important (in part) for exam preparation.You
will receive 130 points for completing and submitting all the Chapter Reviews
(1-13).
Key Terms - You are to review the Key Terms section of each study guide
chapter. You do not need to submit these terms.
To help you review key terms you may go to the Your Chapter Resources and
click-on the flashcards located in each chapter.
Unit Applications -Internet and Observational Activities -
(240 points): There are four (4) Unit Internet activities worth 30 points
each. There are four (4) Unit Observational activities worth 30 points each.
You must create each application activity in Microsoft Word and submit each
assignment by way of an e-mail attachment.
IMPORTANT: Place your full name and assignment title in your actual document.
Each activity assignment must be e-mailed to me BEFORE you take each corresponding
Unit Exam.
THIS IS DOUBLE IMPORTANT: Please follow the e-mail subject line instructions
listed for both activities.
Unit Exams (400 points):
Four (4) web-based unit exams will be given. The exams
are objective (multiple choice). Exams results automatically
post in your gradebook, located in My Grades under the Tools
button. The following chart shows the breakdown of questions per exam.
There are 50 questions worth 2 points each.
Unit 1 Exam 1: Chapters 1-4 = 50 questions = 100
points
Unit 2 Exam 2: Chapters 5-7 = 50 questions
= 100 points
Unit 3 Exam 3: Chapters 8-10 = 50 questions = 100
points
Unit 4 Exam 4: Chapters 11-13 = 50 questions = 100
points
Exams:Testing will be done ONLINE. You will have one (1)
attempt to complete each exam. You will have 50 minutes to complete
each exam.
Detailed exam directions are located within the course.
Exams are to be scheduled
through the Department of Extended Learning.
Evaluation:
There are 770 points possible in this course. The
grade breakdown is as follows:
693-770 = A
616-692 = B
539-615 = C
462-538 = D
