Strickler was born in Kansas City, Mo., but moved to Springfield, Mo., at the age of 12 and began his lifelong study of the guitar. He was playing professionally by high school. He holds a master’s degree in jazz studies from the prestigious University of North Texas, Denton. There he studied with Fred Hamilton, was a teaching fellow and recorded with the highly respected 2:00 Lab Band.
Currently Strickler is on the faculty at Drury University, Missouri State University and Southwest Baptist University. He has also been the guitar teacher for the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield since 1998. In addition to his teaching duites, Strickler performs weekly with his trio, in a duo and as a solo guitarist.
Strickler resides in Springfield with his wife, three cats and six guitars.
