TCP/IP Dial up instructions for Mac System 7.5.3 - 8
From the Apple menu, click on Control Panels
- Open the PPP control panel. (If you are using System 7.5.3 or 7.6, and you do not have a PPP Control Panel, you will need to install Open Transport/PPP, which came with your system.)
- From the File menu, choose Configurations...
- Highlight "Default"
- Click Duplicate.
- Rename this configuration "SBU Dialup".
- From the PPP menu, choose Modem...
- Select your modem type from the Modem menu.
If your exact modem is not available, use one of the "Null Modem xxxxx" settings where the xxxxx is the speed of your modem. (Note: iMac users should already have the ‘Internal 56k’ modem selected.)
- Close the Modem Control Panel and save the modem settings.
- From the PPP menu, choose TCP/IP... and set the following:
- Close the TCP/IP Control Panel and save the settings.
- In the PPP Control Panel, check "Registered User" and set the following:
- Your SBU account name and password
- The phone number 326-3342.
- Click the Connect button to connect to SBU Dialup.

- Go to the Apple Menu (Top left Corner)
- Open Control Panels, Select TCP/IP
- In the TCP/IP window select
Leave the rest of the fields blank - they will be dynamically supplied by the host
- Go to the Apple Menu (top left Corner)
- Open Control Panels
- Select Remote Access
- In the Remote Access window, select:
- Name: use your SBU login name or student #
- Password: use your SBU login password
- Select Save Password
- Number: 326-3342
- Note: the Options button and the options presented thereafter
- Go to the Apple Menu (top left Corner)
- Open Control Panels
- Select Modem
- In the Modem window, check the following:
- Connect via: Internal Modem
- Modem: Apple intrenal 56K modem (or other if needed)
- Sound: on or off
- Dialing: Tone

Apple 10.X Dialup Instructions
The Network Setup Assistant is an application which Apple provides as part of the operating system to assist you in setting up dialup and other network connections.
To run the Network Setup Assistant, start by pulling down the Apple menu at the top left corner of your screen, then select "System Preferences..."
In the System Preferences window, find and click once on the "Network" icon. This will open your computer's Network settings and preferences. |
In the Network Setting and Preference window select from the Show dropdown menu the Internal Modem. |
Select the PPP tab and enter the following information using your SBU user name and password.

Click Apply Now |
Select the Modem tab and check the setting to match the picture below.

Click Apply Now |
To start the dialup connection click on Internet Connect in the Status Menu Bar.
