What Makes Earning a Music Degree at SBU Special?
- Nearly 100% of our music major graduates find positions within their field upon
graduation. - Nearly all students majoring in music complete an internship in their field. Recent
placements have included assisting in school music programs, with church music, at
radio stations and recording studios. - Our Chorale tours internationally — in Italy in 2003, in Germany in 2006 and
in the summer of 2009 we will tour in Austria. - The music department, including both faculty and students, is a close-knit family
with all the support and fun that comes from working, studying, and playing
together. - Our SBU band tours regionally, representing the university at youth rallies,
churches, and weekend events. - Higher Ground, our Christian Worship Group, tours the nation sharing
contemporary Christian music and sharing the message about Jesus Christ. - SBU offers ensemble opportunities in symphonic winds, chorale, orchestra, concert
choir, opera theatre, jazz ensemble, Higher Ground, chamber singers, concert
band, pep bands, and chamber ensembles (brass, woodwind and percussion)
