Instrumental Studies
Applied lessons are available in all instruments (woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings) for both music majors and non-majors. Contact the music office for more information.
Members of all instrumental ensembles collectively prepare and perform music for concerts, both on and off campus, and participate in other activities throughout the semester. The music department believes that the rehearsing and performing of music can be—and should be—a worshipful experience at all times, whether the composition is considered to be sacred or secular.
“Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the lute and the harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!”
(Psalm 150:3-6)
SBU owns several instruments in each instrument family—woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings—which may be lent for the semester to those students with permission of the director of Instrumental Studies.
