Mission
Our Healing Mission: The physical therapy department at Southwest Baptist University is dedicated to providing society with physical therapists who engage in the art and science of physical therapy with a Christian worldview. The graduate will be a clinician generalist who is prepared to provide physical therapy services for a diverse population in an evolving society and health care environment.
"Graduates practice both their new profession and their Christian faith as a part of a medical mission team."
Medical mission trips to foreign countries such as India are one of the unique opportunities available through the physical therapy program at Southwest Baptist University for students who choose to participate. The mission trips usually take place immediately upon completion of the program. Graduates practice both their new profession and their Christian faith as a part of a medical mission team meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people less fortunate than themselves. Although the trip occurs soon after graduation, the preparation, including discussion of the impact of a different culture and language, is done over several months during the final year.
Students raise the funds to cover all expenses of the
mission including supplies. Two
graduating classes along with
a faculty member have had the opportunity to travel to Chandigarh,
India, and most recently a group of our graduates
traveled to San Pedro, Venezuela. They provided services
to a large number of individuals of all ages with acute
and chronic diseases and injuries resulting in a variety of
impairments, functional limitations and disabilities. The program
goal is to provide this opportunity to a foreign country
on an annual to biennial basis.
