Fall 2007 Projects

Blimpie Marketing Project

SIFE members met with the owner of the local Blimpie Sandwiches restaurant to design and implement several new marketing strategies to help Blimpie reach the local college student target market.

Destination Station

SIFE worked with the second-graders at the local elementary school to teach them about the basic concepts of international trade and currency exchange rates.  Color-coded paper money was used to address the idea that different cultures use different currencies.  The project culminated with a international fair where the students were able to participate in currency exchanges and purchase international goods.

Ghana Connection

Our team has partnered with the SIFE team at the University of Ghana.  We sent them curriculum for two of our projects and have adopted one of their projects and implemented it in our community in the form of our Elementary Bank Savings project.

Elementary Bank Savings

SIFE partnered with the Bank of Bolivar to teach the third-graders at Polk County Christian School about money management.  The lessons were based on the idea that the students could do three things with their money: share it, spend it, or save it.  The students have been set up with their own savings accounts at the bank.  Now every Friday is a Deposit Day where the students can deposit their money at the school via SIFE members.

We Frame It and More Marketing Project

SIFE members met with the owners of We Frame It and More, a locally owned picture framing company and Christian bookstore.  Together we developed the “Church of the Week” marketing strategy which enables the store to attract and maintain relationships with new and existing customers.

Going Green

In conjunction with SBU’s Student Government Association, SIFE is promoting recycling on our campus by putting recycling bins in convenient locations around campus.

Resume Writing Workshops

SIFE offered a resume writing workshop to SBU students to help them develop professional and credible resumes, which will help them secure the jobs they deserve after their hard work in their respective areas of study.

Risky Business – Pleasant Hope

After the success of the Risky Business project in the Bolivar Middle School during the fall semester, SBU SIFE has taken the project to the Pleasant Hope Middle School to bring the same teaching and experiences to a group of behaviorally-challenged students.

Budgeting Seminars

To help our fellow college students learn financial management skills, SIFE offered a Budgeting Seminar to teach the students the basics of budgeting.  The attendees have the opportunity to track their expenses and then meet for follow-up with the project leader for assistance in creating a manageable budget.
