The staff of the department of safety and security consists of the director, assistant director, office coordinator, four fulltime patrol officers, and student safety officers. Officers are available 365 days a year. The department of safety and security aids in enforcement of federal, state, local statutes and university regulations. While safety and security officers do not make arrests, the department of safety and security maintains a close working relationship with local law authorities.
Officers do have the right to detain and identify any individual on university property. Safety and security officers cooperate with and may request assistance from local law enforcement authorities when needed. The department of safety and security provides for the safety and protection of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the environment. In addition, the department is charged with protecting property, enforcing university regulations, and maintaining order. The entire staff strives to serve the university community.
The department's mission is to promote an atmosphere free from fear for personal safety, property loss, or accidents and thereby contribute to SBU's academic excellence. The department of safety and security is located in the Hammons Center for Facilities Excellence at 520 W. Aldrich Rd. Formal Education: Mark earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Parks Management from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Drury University. Professional Certifications: Mark is a graduate of the Springfield Police Academy (120), and has earned professional certifications of Certified Protection Officer from the International Foundation for Protection Officers, Certified Safety and Health Specialist and Defensive Driving Instructor from the National Safety Council, Community Emergency Response Team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and is a DSX Access Systems Administrator. Committee Involvement: Mark has recently served on the North Central Accreditation and Benefits Committees as well as Chair of the Staff Task Force Committee. Mark is also chair of the Safety Committee and serves on various committees each year. Church Activities: Mark is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bolivar Missouri where he serves as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mark also participates in missions with the church. Hobbies: Mark enjoys fitness, martial arts, travel, and reading in his free time. |

Church Activities: Zeke is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bolivar Missouri where he participates in the choir. Hobbies: Zeke enjoys playing golf, puzzles, cooking, and reading in his free time. |
