Campus Life at Southwest Baptist University

Student Association

The role of SBU's Student Association is to represent the student body to the University administration. Positions include President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. Students may run for SA positions or large positions to represent SBU's student body.

What do we do?

Student Association exists to enhance and enrich the student experience at SBU. We do this through our three committees.

Student Relations Committee

This committee actively pursues student input and is constantly looking for ways to improve the SBU experience. We host events such as coffee breaks, forums, and other activities to provide an avenue for students to make their voices heard. Volunteer opportunities are also provided for students through this committee.

Campus Improvement Committee

If you ever see or experience anything on campus and wish that it were different, this committee exists to address these issues. This can encompass physical improvements (recent renovations include sand volleyball courts, the game room, and Randolph chapel), or intangible improvements such as policy changes.

Organization Empowerment Committee

One of the most important responsibilities of the Student Association is allocating funds to the 30+ student-led clubs and organizations. As most students are involved in at least one of these academic or social clubs/organizations, this is one of the best ways we can impact students. We encourage you to get involved in the many clubs and organizations that exist on campus; and if we don’t have one that fits you, contact us for more information on starting your own club and receiving funding from the Student Association.

How to get involved

As an SBU undergraduate student, you are automatically a member of the Student Association. We are funded through a student fee that every student pays, including you, so you have a vested interest in the activities of SA. We encourage you to be as involved as you like to be in the activities that we do. There are a few ways to get involved:

  • Be in the know! Like us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SBUnivSA) and follow us on Twitter (@SBUnivSA)
  • Come to our forums and coffee breaks to give your input and see what's going on.
  • If you see something on campus you'd like changed, tell us!
  • Join a committee! If you would like to play a more active role in SA while also developing your leadership skills and impacting your fellow students, joining a committee is the next step for you. Contact any of the executive cabinet members (see below) if you are interested in serving on a committee.

How to contact us

Don’t hesitate to contact one of our executive cabinet members; we would love to talk with you! Contact us via Facebook, Twitter or email; or just stop us when you see us on campus.
