Student Association

The role of SBU's Student Association is to represent the student body to the University administration. Positions include President, Vice-President, Campus Improvement Chair and Student Involvement Chair.

What do we do?

Student Association exists to enhance and enrich the student experience at SBU. We do this by serving students through our tagline: Inform. Impact. Involve.

How to get involved

As an SBU undergraduate student, you are automatically a member of the Student Association. We are funded through a student fee that every student pays, including you, so you have a vested interest in the activities of SA. We encourage you to be as involved as you like to be in the activities that we do. There are a few ways to get involved:

  • Be in the know! Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
  • Come to our forums and coffee breaks to give your input and see what's going on.
  • If you see something on campus you'd like changed, tell us! Come speak with us in our office (we have office hours posted on the door).
  • Join a committee! If you would like to play a more active role in SA while also developing your leadership skills and impacting your fellow students, joining a committee is the next step for you. Contact any of the SA leadership (see below) if you are interested in serving on a committee.

Publicity Committee

This is the marketing and advertising side of Student Association. This committee is focused on the “inform” part of the “Inform. Impact. Involve.” tagline. We do everything from poster advertising, social media, informational forums, or even helping other campus organizations with advertising! We are who get the word out about what’s happening around campus. Whether you can design, market, or just are a people person, come be a part of the publicity committee!

Campus Improvement Committee

The campus improvement chair and committee work as a bridge between students and administration by not only improving physical aspects of campus such as renovations and policy, but also culturally by uniting students through activities and impacting as many students as possible. Some of the events and tasks we accomplish include Saturday Give Backs, Bearcaching, proposals for renovations, and brainstorming followed by completing other various campus improvement projects.

Student Involvement Committee

The student involvement committee is all about supporting he clubs and organization on campus. Our mission is to get as many student at SBU involved as possible. A few ways we accomplish this is by staying in contact with the leaders of the clubs and organizations, attending their events, and holding monthly meetings that can help turn their plans into actions.
