2003 Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher

susandebaucheSusan DeBauche was presented the 2003 Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher award at the Southwest Baptist University Formal Convocation on Wednesday, August 27, 2003.

The award is presented annually to a faculty member who has been judged by the previous three years' and current year's graduating classes to be outstanding in both teaching ability and personal guidance. The Board of Trustees at Southwest Baptist University has designated this award in memory of former Academic videoDean Orien B. Hendrex. This is the second time she has been selected to receive this award.

Dr. Debauche joined the faculty of Southwest Baptist University in 1985 as an instructor of business. Since becoming part of the SBU family, she has recieved regular promotions and has held the rank of professor since 2000. Her years of service have been spent taching in the College of Business and Computer Science and serving as chair of the business administration department. Her previous teaching experience was on the secondary level at Bolivar and Pleasant Hope.

Dr. Debauche first became acquainted wiht SBU as a student majoring in business education and busines administration with a minor in Spanish in 1978. She earned an M.S. in marketing and distributive education/curriculum and instruction from Central Missoui State University in Warrensburg in 1985 and an Ed.D. in higher education-college teaching/vocational business from the University of Arkansas in 1990.

During her professional careeer, Dr. Debauche has attended numerous professional meetings including the North Central Accreditation national meeting, national PEO meetings and four Association of College Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) national meetings. Also she has been a consultant for the ACBSP Accreditation and Reaffirmation Team for 11 years. She has presented many scholarly papers and has been published in Baptist publications and textbooks.

As a faculty member at SBU, Dr. Debauche has been very active in faculty committee work, served as president of the Faculty Senate in 1998, served as a member of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and served as a member of the presidential search team in 1995, in addition to several other academic activities.

Dr. Debauch is active in the Bolivar community and has been a guest writer for the Bolivar Hearld-Free Press on numerous occasions. She is a member of First Baptist Church in Bolivar, and loves to read, fish, travel, garden, spend time with her friends and shop.
