Majors, Minors, Degrees and Certificates

Department of Behavioral Science

Every student graduating from SBU with a bachelor's degree must have successfully completed at least 128 credit hours, of which 40 hours must be upper division (3000-4000) course work. The 128 credit hours must include the University's 42 hour General Education requirement, the Graduation requirement (10 hours for the typical BS Degree; 16 to 18 hours for the typical BA degree), and the listed requirements of a major as described in the University's Catalog. The majors and minors offered by this department are listed below. These links take you an initial program page with links to the appropriate paragraphs in SBU's Online Catalog.

* A Minor is a group of academically related courses smaller than a Major. While there is no graduation requirement for a minor, the elective minor allows you to take basic upper-level courses in a subject that captures your interest and contributes to your educational goals.

* * A Certificate program is a cluster of somewhat unrelated courses. Each required course contributes valuable knowledge and / or know-how as preparation for undertaking a complex task involving extraordinary responsibility. The department issuing the certificate is documenting your preparation as being appropriate to that responsible task.
