Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU? "I enjoy teaching at SBU for a number of reasons, but the primary one is related to the interest I have in seeing students, at a key moment in their lives, come to grips with human behavior (psychology) and its application in the Christian worldview (faith).  I search and struggle with that very issue and while I have learned some things, which I try to pass on to the students, I also know I still have a ways to go.  Therefore, the teaching of the discipline of psychology and Christian faith is the challenge that excites me, but then seeing the students grow in that and then applying that to what they encounter is the joy I have of teaching at a school like SBU."

Faith Dedications: Dr. Schriver, his wife and three children are active members of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri.  Schriver teaches a young married couples class; is involved with the Second Act Drama Ministry (his wife, Denise, is the director and is on staff at the church); is involved with the Media Team for weekly broadcasts; and is a part of an apologetics group at the church, working with the pastor on current issues in defense of Christianity.

Educational and Professional Background: Schriver holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Religious Studies from SBU; Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Central Missouri State University; and a Psy. D. degree in Clinical Psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology.  He was employed for five years with the State of Missouri's Department of Mental Health before coming to teach at SBU.
