Fresh Ideas Food Service Management at Southwest Baptist University focuses on what the students want, offering menus for even the most discriminating tastes with variety, convenience and nutrition in mind.

At the main dining facility, Mellers Dining Commons, we offer all-you-can-eat entrees, as well as a Grill Station and Deli Bar, Specialty Bar, full salad bar, and desserts.

For a quick snack or specialty coffee, stop by the Sports Cafe or Kaldi's Coffee Shop.

Meal Plans

Meal Plan Agreements

  • Students living in University residence halls must purchase either a 20-meal or 15-meal plan.
  • Students living in SBU's on-campus apartments or houses can purchase any University meal plan and/or declining credit balance (DCB) account.
  • SBU off-campus and commuter students can purchase any University meal plan and/or declining credit balance (DCB) account.
  • Students, faculty and staff members who are over their meal plan limit may pay cash or use Bearcat Bucks when purchasing meals at Mellers Dining Commons or the SBU Sports Cafe (breakfast only).

Making Changes to Your Meal Plan

Students, faculty and staff members who wish to change their meal plans may contact the Office of Residence Life in the Student Life Center in the Goodson Student Union from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, stop by or call the Student Life Center at (417) 328-1885.

Guidelines for changing meal plans:

  • All meal plan cancellation requests must be made through the Student Life Center.
  • To change from a smaller meal plan to a larger meal plan, change request may be filed at any time.
  • During fall and spring semesters, change requests to change from a bigger meal plan to a smaller meal plan must be filed by 5 p.m. on the fifth day of classes. Meal plan cancellations also must be filed by 5 p.m. on the fifth day of classes.
  • During Winterfest or summer terms, meal plan cancellations must be filed by 5 p.m. on the third day of classes.
  • Meal plan cancellation requests will not be accepted after the deadline.
  • Cancellation refunds, per the University's room-and-board refund policy, will be based on the following schedule:
    • Prior to the start of classes: 100% refund
    • Before the fifth day of classes (for fall and spring semesters): 90% refund
    • Before the third day of classes (for Winterfest and summer terms): 90% refund
    • Cancellation requests made after deadline: No refund

Meal Plan Options

  • Includes 20 of the 20 meals served per week and $50 in FREE Bearcat Bucks that can be used in both the SBU Sports Cafe and Kaldi's Coffee Shop.
  • Expires at the end of the semester for which it is purchased.
  • Offered during the fall, spring and Winterfest terms ($50 Bearcat Bucks benefit not available with Winterfest meal plan).
  • Cost per semester: $2,100 (the $50 Bearcat Bucks benefit comes FREE with the plan and is not included in the overall cost).
  • Payment options: Credit/debit card, cash, or check. Meal plans also can be charged to student accounts. Payment must be made directly to Southwest Baptist University.
  • Available to all students and to SBU faculty and staff members.
  • Includes 15 of the 20 meals served per week (approximately 80 meals less than the 20-meal plan and does not include the free $50 Bearcat Bucks).
  • Expires at the end of the semester for which it is purchased.
  • Offered during the fall and spring semesters and summer terms.
  • Summer semester 15-meal plans include breakfast, lunch and dinner meals served Monday-Friday (weekend meal service not available for summer terms).
  • Cost per semester: $2,050 ($50 less than the 20-meal plan).
  • Payment options: Credit/debit card, cash, or check. Meal plans also can be charged to student accounts. Payment must be made directly to Southwest Baptist University.
  • Available to all students and to SBU faculty and staff members.
  • Includes 75 meals that can be used throughout the semester of purchase (usage limit: 20 meals per week) and $50 in free Bearcat Bucks. The Bearcat Bucks may be used to purchase anything at the Sports Cafe, or a meal exchange can be made at Mellers Dining Commons or for breakfast at the Sports Cafe.
  • Expires at the end of the semester for which it is purchased.
  • Offered only during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Cost per semester: $595 (the $50 Bearcat Bucks come FREE with the plan and is not included in the overall cost).
  • Payment options: Credit/debit card, cash, or check. Meal plans also can be charged to student accounts. Payment must be made directly to Southwest Baptist University.
  • Available to students living in University on-campus apartments or house, off-campus students, and commuter students only. SBU faculty and staff members also may purchase this plan.

SBU students, faculty and staff members wishing to purchase a declining cash balance (DCB) account may do so by contacting the Fresh Ideas Food Service Management Office, which is located inside the Mellers Dining Commons. Orders may be made in person or can be placed by phone at (417) 328-1542.

  • Offered during the fall, spring, Winterfest and summer terms.
  • Available to all students and to SBU faculty and staff members.
  • Residence hall students who are required to maintain a 20- or 15-meal plan can purchase a DCB account but cannot use it as a substitute for their meal plans.
  • Minimum purchase amount: $20
  • Payment options: Payment must be made directly to Fresh Ideas Food Service Management. Payment can be made at Mellers DIning Commons. All DCB purchases are nonrefundable.
  • Expires one year after date of purchase.

Meal Plan Ordering Information

SBU students, faculty and staff members wishing to purchase, change or cancel a meal plan may do so by completing a Southwest Baptist University Meal Plan Application, available from the SBU Student Life Center or by downloading it from the mySBU portal. Declining Cash Balance (DCB) Account Order Information

SBU students, faculty and staff members may purchase a declining cash balance (DCB) account by contacting the Fresh Ideas Food Service Management Office inside Mellers Dining Commons. Orders may be made in person or by phone at (417) 328-1542.

Meal Plan Prices

Prices for breakfast, lunch and dinner meals can be found on the Dining Facility Service Schedule. Prices for individual a la carte items at the SBU Sports Cafe and Kaldi's Coffee Shop can be obtained by calling the Sports Cafe at (417) 328-1966 or the Coffee Shop at (417) 328-1544.

Special Services

Students, faculty and staff who have special dietary needs due to specific medical conditions (including food allergies, diabetes, Chron's disease, celiac disease, chronic kidney disease, high cholesterol, gout, and others) are encouraged to contact the Director of Food Services at the Fresh Ideas Food Service Management Office, which is located inside the Mellers Dining Commons in the Goodson Student Union.
If you are unable to make it to Mellers Dining Commons during the posted service hours for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can request a sack meal to pick up ahead of time. The request must be made in advance and be approved through the Fresh Ideas Food Service Management Office. Sack meals are available to students, faculty and staff members who carry a 20-meal plan, 15-meal plan or a Super Bearcat Bucks meal plan.
You can request a sick meal to go if you are unable to go to Mellers Dining Commons for breakfast, lunch or dinner due to illness. Sick meal requests must be made in advance and be approved through the Fresh Ideas Food Service Management Office for students who carry a 20-meal plan, 15-meal plan or a Super Bearcat Bucks meal. Students living in residence halls have additional sick meal options (chicken noodle soup, crackers and Sprite) that can be obtained through the resident director.
