Theatre Productions

Both theatre majors and students from other majors have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of theatre, including acting, directing, design, stagecraft and more.

Participating in SBU Theatre is a great opportunity for hands-on, interactive learning as you use your God-given gifts, talents and creativity.

SBU Theatre typically produces four mainstage productions each year, as well as other events such as improv shows, student plays and one-act plays.

Six Characters in Search of an Author

September 29-October 1, 7 p.m.
Davis-Newport Theater
By Luigi Pirandello; Directed by Jonathan Wehmeyer
Now considered a classic work, Six Characters in Search of an Author debuted as a controversial work in 1921. The foundational play contains strong theatrical themes and deals with difficult issues including death, relationships, and the intersection of reality and theatre.  We invite all patrons to attend a post-show discussion where the cast and crew will talk about these themes and offer insight into how we, as  Christians engaged in our communities, might approach these difficult but very real issues.

Pre-Show Talk

We will be having a 20-30 minute pre-show talk on Thursday, Sept. 29 starting at 6pm and given by faculty from SBU's Department of Language and Literature. The title of the talk is "Whose Words Are These?: Three Writers on Authorship," and it will address issues of authorship connected with issues addressed in the performance of Six Characters in Search of an Author, which will follow the talk.
