Your Safety First

SBU’s department of safety and security provides security services for all students, employees and guests. Campus safety features include:

  • 24/7 patrol 365 days a year
  • Electronic access control to all residence halls for added security
  • Extensive security camera system
  • Staffed by highly educated and certified personnel. Full-time patrol officers have Basic Protection Officer certification from the International Foundation for Protection Officers; most officers have more advanced certifications.
  • Cooperative relationship with local law authorities, including the Bolivar Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Bolivar City Fire Department
  • Ongoing security training with Residence Life staff
  • Emergency management planning

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, SBU publishes its annual Security and Fire Safety Report by Oct. 1 every year.

Vehicle Registration

All vehicles operated or parked on university property must display a current SBU parking permit and must abide by SBU's Motor Vehicle Regulations.

SBU Alert

All SBU students and employees are encouraged to enroll in the SBU Alert program to receive emergency notifications from Safety and Security, Student Life or University Communications. SBU Alert will notify subscribers via text message and/or email as well as through the SBU website should there be the need for an emergency notification.
