Education and professional background: Conley received a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics from SBU and a M.S. in Information Systems from the University of Phoenix. Prior to coming to SBU, Conley worked as a systems engineer for Cerner Corporation for four years, then worked for General Dynamics IT as a software administrator for the Marine Corp Enterprise IT data center and most recently has worked for Booz Allen Hamilton as an IT release coordinator and configuration manager for the United States Department of Agriculture. Conley began teaching at SBU in 2013 and teaches courses in the areas of introduction to computing, foundations of computer science and supporting class labs. Her current areas of research interest include natural language programming and ethical hacking.

Family: Conley married her husband, William, in 2013 and is step-mom to Juelz Conley, their five year old son.

Community Involvement: Conley has served with the Hispanic Ministry worship team and Mission Adelante, a Hispanic ministry outreach for kids. She has also been involved with various church and Kansas City area groups working to combat human trafficking.

Why did you choose to teach at SBU? “I have always had a passion for mentoring and teaching in industry settings, but I did not consider academia until I learned about the opportunity at SBU. Taking the leap of faith from industry to academia has been one of the best life decisions and experiences. I had a great experience as a student at SBU and I look forward to being a part of teaching and helping future SBU students.”

What sets SBU apart from other universities? “Definitely the environment; SBU strives to invite students into a family environment. You are not another number and you have direct access to faculty.”

What advice do you have for prospective students? “Get involved in a group, whether on-campus or through your church. I believe getting plugged-in not only gives you a diverse experience, but allows you to stay connected. However, I would limit the number of groups to make sure that you stay on top of your academics. Have fun, but don’t spread yourself too thin.”

What is your favorite thing to do in Bolivar/Southwest Missouri? “My favorite thing to do in Bolivar is go to Dunnegan Memorial Park.”
