Current Projects: After the publication of his book, Divine Apology (2002), Dr. Miller has continued to explore and write about the relationship between faith and public rhetoric. He is working on a novel that deals with the internal and public struggles of faith, relationships, and politics. Most recently he has been analyzing the rhetoric of faith in the Obama campaign.

Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU? The students here always encourage me with their kindness, openness, and intellectual curiosity. I enjoy integrating the worlds of faith and academics, where our faith grows in complexity and our scholarship grows in grace.

Faith Dedications: Dr. Miller is currently a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Springfield. He frequently speaks and teaches for area faith communities.

Educational and Professional Background: English, B.A. and Communication, M.A. from Missouri State University; and Communication, Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Miller is very involved in civic organizations and public advocacy in the Springfield area, where he taught and coached high school speech and debate for 10 years.

Hobbies and Interests: Public speaking, remodeling his old house in Springfield, writing, playing and recording music with his folk-rock group Brother Wiley, and spending time with his wife, who is a reading specialist, and his two teenage daughters, who are students at Parkview High School in Springfield and William Jewell College.
