Entrance/Exit Counseling
Before you get your Federal Stafford student loan, you are required by federal regulation to complete an entrance counseling session.
When you enter SBU and become a first time loan borrower, the Federal Government requires that you complete Entrance Counseling prior to receiving your loan disbursements for Stafford and Perkins Loans. If you are exiting (leaving, graduating from) SBU, please skip down to the next paragraph. By accessing this "Mapping Your Future" link, you are able to complete the necessary counseling online anytime day or night. The purpose of counseling is to make you aware of your rights & responsibilities as a Stafford/Perkins Loan borrower.
If you are leaving or graduating from SBU, exit counseling is required to remind you, again, of your rights & responsibilities as a Stafford/Perkins Loan borrower. Please do not leave this important step undone!

The web page is easy to read, however, please be sure to check again that you are completing the correct counseling form before you begin. At the end of the counseling form, you will be given a confirmation number that you may print or copy off for your records. Our office will receive all counseling forms electronically; therefore, you do not have to submit paper copies of your counseling session.

Counseling Session Instructions:
Click on the counseling session that fits your circumstances, the combined Perkins/Stafford entrance counseling the Stafford exit counseling. Provide all information that is requested completely and to the best of your ability. After reading the information concerning borrowing federal funds, please answer the questions. When that is done successfully, your session will be confirmed and sent electronically to our office.
