At SBU, faculty and staff work together to see that our mission statement is lived out every day:

SBU is a Christ-centered, caring academic community preparing students to be servant leaders in a global society.

Our faculty is respected for academic excellence, but they are loved for the personal attention they give their students. They are committed to helping you grow mentally and spiritually. Our staff supports the faculty in serving the University.

Faculty and staff work together to make the SBU mission statement real and often join students on mission trips to spread the gospel throughout the local community and the world.

SBU understands and emphasizes the dignity and equality of all persons and adheres to a strict nondiscrimination policy regarding the treatment of individual faculty, staff and students.

SBU does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, disability or veteran status except to the extent permitted by religious exemptions recognized by law.

Employees who feel they have been discriminated against shall report their concern to their direct supervisor, a member of the executive cabinet or the Director of Human Resources. Claims of discrimination will be investigated by the University and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigation up to and including termination. In addition to compliance with the nondiscrimination provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the University is required to provide reasonable accommodations to the known physical or mental limitations of qualified persons with disabilities. A qualified person with a disability is a person who, with or without reasonable accommodations, is able to perform the essential functions of the position. A known disability is either visible or made known by the person with the disability. Requests for accommodation should be initiated by the employee.
