SBU understands and emphasizes the dignity and equality of all persons and adheres to a strict nondiscrimination policy regarding the treatment of individual faculty, staff and students.
SBU does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, disability or veteran status except to the extent permitted by religious exemptions recognized by law.
Employees who feel they have been discriminated against shall report their concern to their direct supervisor, a member of the executive cabinet or the Director of Human Resources. Claims of discrimination will be investigated by the University and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigation up to and including termination. Failure to cooperate with a discrimination investigation is a terminable offense.
In addition to compliance with the nondiscrimination provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the University is required to provide reasonable accommodations to the known physical or mental limitations of qualified persons with disabilities. A qualified person with a disability is a person who, with or without reasonable accommodations, is able to perform the essential functions of the position. A known disability is either visible or made known by the person with the disability. Requests for accommodation should be initiated by the employee. When a qualified individual with a disability requests an accommodation, the University will make a good faith effort to provide an accommodation that is effective for the individual and reasonable. Employees should contact the Department of Human Resources for additional information regarding the University’s compliance with the ADA.
All other inquiries concerning SBU’s compliance with federal and state laws and guidelines regarding discrimination should be directed to the Vice President for Administration, the Vice President for Student Development, the Director of Enrollment Management or the Director of Human Resources at 1600 University Avenue, Bolivar, Missouri 65613.
