Endowed Scholarships
The tradition of giving endowed scholarships has been in existence almost as long as SBU itself. Long ago those with a vision of the future of Christian higher education realized the need to give a principal amount that would perpetually create a return of interest designated to assist worthy students. Whether given in loving memory of someone dear, or to honor an individual, the tradition has continued to a current total of more than 200 endowed scholarships.
There are two ways to establish a scholarship: with a current gift, or with a planned gift (e.g., from a provision through a will). Furthermore, a combination of these two ways of giving will ensure that the scholarship is properly established during the donor's lifetime, although a greater giving potential may actually occur beyond the lifetime of the donor.
In order to create a new endowed scholarship, a scholarship proposal is prepared for the donor. The donor may wish to determine criteria for awarding the scholarship, providing that those criteria are acceptable to the University. The donor may wish to consider such criteria for the recipient as follows:
- award according to geographical area (local Baptist association, county, etc.),
- awarded according to field of study
- demonstrated financial need

YOUR ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE
"In today's society, it is imperative to have a college degree in order to succeed in a career. Unfortunately, a college degree is anything but inexpensive. Receiving an endowed scholarship is truly a blessing from God. An endowed scholarship provides financial support for my education, but more importantly, the scholarship provides moral support. It is so comforting to know that fellow Christians are willing to donate money to help me as I strive to seek God's will for my life."

Elementary Education"The endowment scholarship program has made an incredible difference in my ability to attend Southwest Baptist University . Without these scholarships, it would be difficult for me to continue my education and prepare for the ministry. I consider it an honor and a blessing to be a recipient and am encouraged by the investment others have made in my life."
