St. John's College of Nursing and Health SciencesFor nearly 20 years, Southwest Baptist University and St. John’s Health System (Springfield, Mo.) have combined their efforts to meet the nursing education needs of the world today. This commitment continues as St. John’s and SBU provide the nurses of this new century with a Christian focus, relating a Christ-centered mission and positive values. Nursing courses are taught at the SBU Springfield Center. If you are planning to major in nursing, you will need to apply to the College of Nursing as well as to SBU in Bolivar. Contact SBU Springfield Center (417) 820 2069 for more information. SBU’s nursing program consists of two primary tracks: Track 1- ASN: This is a basic two year associate degree nursing program. The graduate of the ASN (Associate of Applied Science in Nursing) program enters the health care environment as a nurse generalist prepared to practice in settings where policies and procedures are established and guidance is available. Graduates of the ASN program meet the requirements for the licensure examination to become registered nurses (NCLEX RN). However, graduation from the program does not guarantee licensure as an RN. Track 2- ASN to BSN: This RN BSN Degree Completion Program is designed for currently licensed nurses who wish to earn the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Degree candidates must be registered nurse graduates of an associate degree or diploma program. The main differences between the ASN and BSN degrees are the opportunities for advancement, higher salaries and the ability to move toward a master’s degree.
