Department of Behavioral Sciences
The department of behavioral sciences is committed to providing you with a sound education in human behavior by helping you to learn theories and practical applications, helping you to think critically, and showing you how to incorporate your Christian faith within your chosen field. Many professors have years of practical experience in the areas of clinical psychology, counseling and social work, and they desire to help you develop a personal integration of Christian principles into your chosen field.

The department of history and political science prepares you in the broadly defined areas of history and politics. Emphasis is placed on dynamics of the cultural heritage both of this nation and the world, while integrating Christian faith and biblical values. The curriculum is rigorous, and you will be challenged to think critically and discuss a variety of issues.

Did you know?

  • Over the past seven years, approximately 90 percent of SBU graduates applying to law school have been accepted. Law schools that SBU graduates have attended (or are currently attending) include: Harvard Law School, University of Notre Dame, Baylor University, Pepperdine University, and College of William and Mary.
  • Within the political science and pre law programs, you will have the opportunity to complete internships working for national or state government offices. Roy Blunt (SBU alumnus and former SBU president), currently serves as Majority Whip and as one of Missouri’s representatives in the U.S. Congress. Many students have worked in his office, as well as the offices of other members of Congress. SBU students also worked in the office of John Ashcroft (current U.S. Attorney General) when he was a Missouri senator in the U.S. Congress.
  • For all majors in this department, the placement rate (in graduate school or jobs) for SBU graduates is approximately 95 percent.
