Meet Jared Tidwell
Major: Management, Class of 2011
Why did you choose SBU? What had the biggest impact on your decision?
I went to a small, private high school and like the quaint atmosphere of SBU. Also, the fact that your professors know you by name is a great thing. I came to SBU because of the great business program, but also because I have had family members graduate from SBU.
Can you describe the classroom environment? What has the coursework been like in your classes?
The classroom environment is interactive and personable. The professors want to know what you think about certain topics and ask for your feedback. College is different than high school, because professors do not hand out busy work. Your coursework is typically applicable to your field of study.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan on getting a job and working on my master’s degree part-time. I will probably also get married; another reason I’m glad I chose SBU.
Why should other students select SBU?
Other students should select SBU to enjoy the quiet, peaceful life of Bolivar. I grew up in Dallas and have enjoyed the transition to small town life. The university is a great place to be and Springfield is only a few miles away if you get bored. Who knows, you might find your spouse here as well. Ultimately, it is a place where Christ is number one. Choose SBU to guide you for a career, but also to be a servant leader for God.
Do you have any advice for future students?
Do not take college for granted; it is an opportunity for you to apply yourself as you are preparing for a job. Treat your coursework as business and do your best. In the real world, employers will not accept thrown together work.
