Why did you choose SBU? What had the biggest impact on your decision?
It wasn’t a school in which I was initially interested, but after deciding that I wanted to play volleyball in college, I came on a visit to SBU.  I can very vividly remember my first day on campus; I felt so welcomed and the atmosphere was one of love and understanding.  The small class sizes and the kindness of the professors is really what ended up selling me to SBU.

Can you describe the classroom environment?
For the most part, my classes have been small and very personal.  It isn’t unusual to stop by a professor’s office and get help for anything from personal issues to a homework assignment.  I can honestly say that my experience with each of my professors has been nothing less than phenomenal.  They have helped me grow as a person, and they have done so by unselfishly giving up there time to talk to me and teach me.

Do you participate in any activities or organizations?
I am a member of the SBU volleyball team, the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC), and two academic groups, Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Chi. Each organization has offered me skills that I could not have learned elsewhere.  Volleyball, which has been my biggest commitment, has instilled in me both confidence and a strong work ethic.  Though it has been no easy feat, I am proud of what I have accomplished through the organizations in which I have participated.

What do you like best about SBU?
Because SBU is relatively small, people know one another and there is a respect and understanding among the students on campus.  The very best part about my college experience at SBU has been the relationships that I have formed with those who I once considered complete strangers.  I have built life-long friendships with my volleyball team, classmates and other students. I am very fortunate to have met the people that I have met, and I believe that God specifically placed each of my SBU friends in my life.

Do you have any advice for future students?
I know that choosing a college is a stressful task.  For me, it was one of the most important decisions I made as a young adult.  Choose a school that makes you feel at home, offers you a strong education and provides opportunities to better your future.  SBU has fulfilled each of those requirements for me, and I know that it can do the same for others.
