Meet Sam Birks
Major: Marketing/Management, Class of 2010
Why did you choose SBU? What had the biggest impact on your decision?
How does college differ from high school? What helped you adjust to college life?
College is the first chance a person gets to have some freedom and control in their life. What you do in college shapes what you become in the future and that gives you a sense of focus and responsibility in what you do on a day-to-day basis.
Do you have any advice for future students?
Don’t take your time in college for granted. Expand your horizons and try new things. The time goes by so fast, and you don’t want to look back and feel regret not taking advantage of opportunities to enjoy the college experience.
What do you think about the faculty, staff, and advisors?
The best thing about the faculty and staff at SBU is the personal attention they give every student. There is never a time when they will not do their best to answer questions, help fix a problem, give advice, or simply take time to talk and interact with students. They take a genuine interest in your life, and want to see you grow academically and spiritually.
Why should other students select SBU?
SBU is a great place to learn and grow to be a better person. You will be challenged academically and spiritually by people who genuinely care who you are as a person, and who want to impact your life in a positive way.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I will pursue my MBA degree, and possibly my doctorate in education or a business-related field.
