Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU? "I enjoy teaching at SBU because I feel called of God to teach the Bible to students, acquaint them with our Christian and Baptist heritage, and equip them to preach and lead in the local church. "

Faith Dedications: Fuhrman served as a pastor from 1973-1998.   He currently belongs to the First Baptist Church of Bolivar. Dr. Fuhrman is still active in terms of serving in area churches by means of interim pastorates, supply preaching, and teaching/leading workshops geared for local congregations. Fuhrman also served on the SBU Board of Trustees from 1988 - 1998 and is currectly a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.

Educational and Professional Background: Fuhrman earned a Bachelor of Arts in History/Christianity (Magna Cum Laude) in 1974 from Southwest Baptist University; a Master of Divinity in 1977 from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; a Ph.D. Seminar: "Introduction to the Apocrypha and to the Problem of the Closing of the Old Testament Canon, " and "Introduction to Rabbinic Judaism, " with Rabbi Michael Cook, Professor at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1978; and in 1981, earned a Ph.D. in New Testament from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. His dissertation title was "A Redactional Study of Prayer in the Gospel of Luke".

Fuhrman has been a College Administrator and Professor for six years, a pastor for 24 years, an adjunct Professor for six years and a Doctor of Ministry Supervisor for six years.
