When is Welcome Week?

Welcome Week 2013 will begin on Thursday, August 15th. It will run through Sunday, August 19th and classes will begin on Monday, August 20th.

Who's in charge?
Winter Welcome is planned by a Steering Committee made up of SBU students and advised by the Director of Student Activities.

What will happen when I arrive?
Everyone is required to check-in at the south entrance of the Meyer Wellness Center.  Welcome Week Staff will be able to check in starting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15th.  During registration, you will receive your meal tickets and t-shirt (if purchased) and schedule  We will let you know where to go from there. 

Residence halls will open at 8:00 a.m. for you to begin moving in to your room.  If you do not know your housing assignment or if you need help finding your residence hall, you may stop by the Student Life Office in the Felix Goodson Student Union for assistance.    

Lunch will be served in Mellers Dinings Commons from 11:00am to 1:00pm. New SBU students will eat for free. Family and Friends of new students can purchase meal tickets ($6) when registering online for Welcome Week or at Move in Day registration on August 15th at SBU.

What do I need to bring?
Welcome Week: You will receive a WW Planner, name tag and meal ticket during registration which will be all you need for the weekend.

Bring a white t-shirt. This can be used or new, but it will be decorated with paint.

Bring clothes that are appropriate for outdoor service projects. It is typically hot in August, so keep that in mind.

A water bottle and sunscreen are also nice to have throughout the week.

  • Clothes for hot and cold weather (Midwest weather can be tricky!)
  • Toiletries
  • Bathroom Linens
  • Bedding (sheets, comforter, pillow, pillow case, etc.)
  • Laundry supplies (detergent, dryer sheets, quarters, etc.)
  • Pictures of your friends and family
  • Computer
  • Other essential items

Who can attend?
Any college student who is new to SBU. This includes freshmen and transfer students.
